I haven't tried this myself so i don't know how much sewing skill is needed but Alan goers to Pulmonary Rehab and they gave what sounds like a good tip.

You have to unpick the sides of the duvet leaving just one long side sewn. Then attach some sort of fastening to the 2 short and one long side.
You can then simply open up the cover (like a page of a book, put the duvet on and then fold the duvet cover on top and fasten the sides all round.
Does that make sense?
YES I'VE CHANGED, PAIN DOES THAT TO PEOPLE.

turn cover inside out. with your hands inside put hese over the corners of your duvet.
then just shake it down and fastern it up.

Hi Julie,
That sounds like a good idea and could make life a lot easier!

I use the method that Lynne described . I find it very hard but it's the only method I know!
I was in the Yorkshire Linen shop recently and they were selling clips that are supposed to make it easy but I couldn't figure out how they worked.

Hi, Turn them inside out, take duvet up to cover, make sure tucked into corners, place a clothes peg in each top corner(,holding cover and duvet) pull cover down over duvet, flatten out duvet, button up, remove pegs, easy.

What a brilliant idea, Julie - why don't they sell duvet covers like that in the first place.

Yes, I do the "inside out" duvet cover method, with holding the corners, but I still find it really difficult. Hmm, might have to see what friends I can con into altering my duvet covers for me BigGrin

Such good ideas - my husband will be delighted, as I have to ask him to do the duvets! It'll be much easier not having to wait until he is around!

Thankyou all

Inside out method here too, but hubby does it as we have a kingsize duvet and I can't quite manage it anymore!

I think I'll show this to Steve. He doesn't have any probs with duvet covrs (big head) but I usually end up inside the thing and covered in duvet.

Putting pegs on the corners sounds like a good idea. We have a king size one so John always helps me and does the shaking out!
